During this last full week of summer break, we want to remind our parents and guardians, and inform all new families, of the safety protocols we use at APISD to keep students and staff safe. APISD uses the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), which provides a common language across our district and with area first responders in the event of an emergency. Over the next two days we'll be highlighting each action of the SRP.
What is the LOCKDOWN Action?
The LOCKDOWN Action is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. LOCKDOWN uses classroom and school security actions to protect students and staff from the threat. During LOCKDOWN, students and staff move out of the line of sight of corridor windows, lights are turned off to make the room seem unoccupied, and occupants of rooms maintain silence.
Examples of LOCKDOWN Conditions
The following are some examples of when a school or emergency dispatch might call for a LOCKDOWN Action.
- Dangerous animal within a school building
- Intruder
- An angry or violent parent, student, or other individual
- Report of a weapon
- Active assailant
Visit apisd.org/page/safety-and-security or iloveuguys.org for more info.

The Aransas Pass Police Department, other area first responders, and APISD will be conducting a joint-entity exercise tomorrow, Wednesday, August 6.
There will be a large presence of law enforcement and other first responders in and around A.C. Blunt Middle School, the football stadium, and Aransas Pass High School on this day. We want to make the public aware that this is a planned exercise so as to not be alarmed.
Please feel free to contact APISD Administration at 361-758-4200 with any questions.

- An altercation in a hallway;
- A medical issue that needs attention;
- Unfinished maintenance operation in a common area during class changes.
