Important Update for Aransas Pass ISD Families
The Texas Legislature has passed House Bill 1481, a new state law that will go into effect beginning with the 2025–2026 school year. This law will prohibit student use of personal electronic communication devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and laptops, while on school property during the school day.
Please note: This is a state law.
Districts are required to adopt and enforce policies that align with this law.
Exceptions include school-issued devices for instructional use and devices required by a student’s IEP or Section 504 plan.
Aransas Pass ISD Administration is reviewing HB 1481 and awaiting additional guidance from the Texas Education Agency. We will continue to communicate updates on our progress as we work to create a districtwide plan and recommend a policy for adoption by the Board of Trustees that aligns with state law while best supporting the educational process and our students and families.
Families, we encourage you to begin discussing this new law and its implications with your child(ren) to help them prepare for the upcoming changes.
As always, we appreciate your support and involvement as we move forward together in implementing this new state requirement.

Thank you to all our students, parents and guardians, community members, and staff for submitting your words of gratitude to our amazing APISD educators! We received SO MANY wonderful, heartfelt messages! If you didn't see your nomination featured on our social media this week, don't worry, we are sending each and every message we received in a thank you note to that teacher. Thank you for supporting and recognizing our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, and every day. #teacherappreciationweek #WeAreAP

This Teacher Appreciation Week, Faulk Elementary parent Maria nominates Ms. McKinny for a shout-out: "From the first day we got the privilege to meet her, which was at Meet the Teacher, just before the school year started, she was so attentive to every child there. She made time to speak with every parent who was able to attend, with concerns of making every child feel comfortable in her class. This year was my son's first year in school - he's never been to a child care center or even been away from home without a parent. He was eager to learn & start the new year but still felt uneasy leaving home. At the beginning, I was expecting him to not want to get up in the mornings for school. It was the complete opposite. Mrs. McKinny is such a caring teacher that she was his reason for getting up every morning, excited to see her & start a new day of learning. Mrs. McKinny has never rejected or ignored any communication with parents. Even on days my son was absent, she would send a message out to check on his well being. She has the most caring & gentle heart that all her students love about her. For all these reasons & so much more we(as a family) choose Mrs. McKinny, as our Teacher of the year. Thank you Mrs. McKinny for everything you have done this year to help your students feel cared for & for expanding their little minds. " Thank you Ms. McKinny! #teacherappreciationweek #WeAreAP

This Teacher Appreciation Week, Charlie Marshall Elementary parent Porsha nominates Coach Flores for a shout-out: "He truly cares about the kids! He is such a positive role model in the schools and community! " Thank you Coach Flores! #teacherappreciationweek #WeAreAP
