Grant will support Process Technology Dual-Enrollment Program in partnership with Del Mar College
ARANSAS PASS, TEXAS – Aransas Pass High School has received a $100,000 Education Grant from the Port of Corpus Christi to support the development of a Process Technology Dual-Enrollment Program in partnership with Del Mar College.
The grant was presented to Aransas Pass ISD representatives during the Port Commission meeting Tuesday, August 18. APISD recognized the award locally during a second check presentation ceremony Thursday at Aransas Pass High School, celebrating the investment and the educational opportunities it will create for students at APHS and in surrounding districts.
“We are very excited to receive this Education Grant from the Port of Corpus Christi,” said APISD Superintendent Wayne Bennett. “At APISD, we believe in providing an education as well as opportunities. With this grant and our partnership with Del Mar, we will be able to offer a Process Technology course that will provide an excellent opportunity for not only our APISD students but students from our neighboring districts.”
Through the planned partnership with Del Mar College, the program will provide students with access to college-level process technology coursework while they are still in high school. Instruction will be housed at APISD, and area districts will have the opportunity to transport participating students to the facility to join APHS students for coursework. Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit while developing technical knowledge and skills relevant to refining, petrochemical, energy, manufacturing and other process-based industries throughout the Coastal Bend.
The $100,000 grant will support the establishment and implementation of the program, including purchasing specialized equipment and preparing classroom space that can hold the demand of the program. APISD and Del Mar College are currently working together to determine the course requirements, build out the course offerings, and gather the needed information for the bridge program into the Del Mar curriculum.
The program will expand the District’s Career and Technical Education offerings while creating an additional pathway for students to continue their education or enter the regional workforce after graduation.
“This is an incredible opportunity, not only for our students at APISD, but also for students in surrounding school districts. The Process Technology program will give them a jump start on a well-paying career in a field that will remain in high demand long term throughout our region.” APHS Principal Josh Rombs said.
The Port of Corpus Christi’s Education Grant Program supports large-scale, high-impact STEM initiatives that expand educational opportunities and help prepare students for the region’s future workforce needs.
Aransas Pass ISD thanks the Port of Corpus Christi for its investment in APHS students and its continued commitment to education and workforce development throughout the Coastal Bend. The district also recognizes Del Mar College for its partnership in bringing this new opportunity to Aransas Pass students.
Additional information about the Process Technology Dual-Enrollment Program, including student eligibility and enrollment details, will be shared as program development continues.
