After the state-required 21-day waiting period since Wayne Bennett was named Aransas Pass ISD’s Lone Finalist for Superintendent on November 10th, Trustees moved to hire him for the position with a unanimous vote during their December 3rd special called meeting.
Bennett has served as Interim Superintendent since May 2025, providing steady leadership and guiding the district through key academic and financial initiatives focused on instructional improvement, student success, and community engagement. His hiring as superintendent marks a continuation of the district’s efforts to strengthen teaching and learning while maintaining stability across campuses.
“The Board of Trustees believes Mr. Bennett’s demonstrated student-focus leadership, effective engagement, and fidelity all foster individual and campus-level growth to positively impact districtwide accountability and programs,” said Board President Wanese Butler. “We believe his leadership is what the District needs in advancing educational initiatives and sustaining the aligned academic and operational goals. The Board looks forward to working with Mr. Bennett to nurture seeds of success for Panther Nation to harvest greatness.”
Bennett expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving the district. “Thank you for the opportunity to serve as APISD Superintendent of Schools. I am truly honored to be a part of this district and grateful for the trust the Board has placed in me. I want to thank the community, my friends, and family for their continued support.”
As he transitions from Interim Superintendent to Superintendent of Schools, Bennett’s primary focus will remain centered on the classroom and student outcomes. This school year’s theme, “Grow Greatness,” reflects his emphasis on fostering a districtwide growth mindset; strengthening instructional practices, supporting teachers, and empowering students to take ownership of their learning. Bennett plans to continue building on that work throughout the remainder of the year, prioritizing academic progress, targeted interventions, and campus-level support to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
“Our plan is to keep classroom instruction at the center of our work and maintain a strong growth mindset that lifts every campus, every classroom, and every student,” Bennett said. “I look forward to partnering with our staff, families, and community to continue building something exceptional for our children.”
Under Bennett’s leadership, Aransas Pass ISD will continue to advance initiatives aligned with the district’s mission, vision, and strategic plan, including improved instructional strategies, enhanced student programs, and partnerships that strengthen the district’s ties to the wider Aransas Pass community.
