Aransas Pass, TX – The Aransas Pass ISD Board of Trustees has accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Glenn Barnes, effective May 1, 2025, and has named Assistant Superintendent Mr. Wayne Bennett as Acting Superintendent, effective May 2, 2025.
These actions were taken during a special called meeting of the Board on April 30, 2025, following Cleveland ISD’s April 29 action officially hiring Dr. Barnes as its next Superintendent of Schools. The APISD Board will finalize its leadership transition plans after the anticipated new Board is seated following the May 3 General Election.
Regarding the transition, APISD Board President Wanese Butler stated, “The District’s operations in meeting the needs of students and staff must continue effectively. Dr. Barnes, Mr. Bennett, and other District leaders have already met in anticipation of leadership transition and regarding pending items. The Board of Trustees has met regarding the leadership transition plan but final decisions and implementation will occur with the opportunity for all Trustees to participate in the process.”
Butler continued, “Following Saturday’s election outcome, the Board vacancy will be filled and swearing-in of the newly elected Board of Trustees is just around the corner. Unlike other employees in the District, the superintendent position has seven supervisors as the Board of Trustees. It is important that the newly elected Trustee have input in the leadership transition plan details as the new Trustee will be part of the implementation responsibilities in moving the District forward.”
