Aransas Pass ISD Superintendent Dr. Glenn Barnes has announced the hiring of Richard Davis to serve as the District’s Athletic Director and Aransas Pass High School Head Football Coach. Davis will return to the Coastal Bend after most recently serving as Head Boys Varsity Track and Field Coach, Assistant Head Football Coach, Offensive Coordinator Play Caller, Quarterback Coach, and Secondary Coach at Karnes City High School during the Badgers’ first winning season since 2014.
Davis earned a Bachelors of Business Administration from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi and has taught middle school and high school students in subjects including Social Studies, Science, Health, and Government and Economics. He served as Head Junior High Football, Basketball, and Track Coach, Freshman Quarterback and Running Back Coach, Varsity Passing Game Coordinator, Wide Receiver and Tight End Coach, and Boys Varsity Head Track Coach at districts including Calallen ISD, Angleton ISD, and Gregory-Portland ISD.
During Davis’s most recent season with Karnes City ISD, the Badgers saw an average of 31.2 points per game, with an average of 191 rushing yards and 130 passing yards, or 321 average yards per game, a 22 points per game and 197 yards per game improvement from the previous season. Karnes City High School Varsity Football finished their most recent season with an improvement from a 1-9 record in 2023-2024 to 6-4 in 2024-2025.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Richard Davis to Panther Country,” said Superintendent Dr. Glenn Barnes. "When we set out to find our next Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, our goal was to identify someone who is not only smart and detail-oriented but also brings a strong work ethic, a win-now mindset, and, most importantly, a deep passion for supporting students. Coach Richard Davis checks all of those boxes.
“APISD attracted significant interest in this position, with more than 50 applications submitted. Narrowing that list to six finalists, and selecting the right individual was no small task. To help guide the decision-making process, we released a survey to our coaching staff, current student-athletes, and their families. The collective feedback from these surveys, combined with the District Leadership Profile developed during the 2023-2024 school year, provided the hiring committee with the clear standards needed to identify the ideal candidate. This thorough process ultimately led us to Coach Richard Davis. We’re excited to work alongside him as he supports the students and staff of Aransas Pass ISD."
Davis comes from a family of educators and coaches, with his father, mother, and fiancée all serving students and student athletes in South Texas and the Coastal Bend.
