Communication Protocol

Consistent with school notification requirements for other communicable diseases, and consistent with legal confidentiality requirements, Aransas Pass ISD will post on the district website (see below) the weekly count of any and all confirmed positive COVID-19 case(s) among students, teachers or staff who participate in any on-campus activities. APISD is committed to transparency during the COVID-19 pandemic, however it does take time to ascertain facts and details of a reported case including verification of any case(s) being confirmed positive. We will post COVID counts once weekly during regular business/school days.

APISD will employ a two-step notification process as outlined below for the 2022-2023 school year:

  • Step 1 - DISTRICT NOTICE(s) – Upon confirmation of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case, APISD will send notification via School Messenger to the parents of any students within a classroom or extra-curricular cohort in which a test-confirmed COVID-19 case identified. Information will be posted weekly and accessible on this web page (www.apisd.org/covid).
  • Step 2 - INDIVIDUAL NOTICE TO QUARANTINE / REPORTING TO SAN PAT COUNTY HEALTH DEPT.  – Upon confirmation of a positive confirmed COVID-19 case, the District will notify the San Patricio County Health Department (SPCHD) as required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Those specific individuals will receive communication from the District, as approved by the county health dept., notifying them of specific action steps including a required period of quarantine. To comply with current TEA policy/state law, APISD will not perform contact tracing during the 2022-2023 school year as that is a specific action reserved for the local county health department as determined necessary. (However, in the event that the county health department contacts the district to obtain necessary information for contact tracing and/or requests support, the district is able and willing to comply under current law.)

CASE COUNTS: Lab-Confirmed Positive COVID-19 Cases

We have revised our reporting of case number on our website to provide parents with a more detailed explanation of of current COVID-19 cases at schools. This information will be updated every Monday, as is consistent with our reporting to the Texas Education Agency, and will include totals for the previous week by campus and grade level.
