General Information

  1. Aransas Pass School Bus Drivers are hired and trained following rigorous criteria including a thorough criminal history background check. All Aransas Pass school bus drivers are trained through the Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification Course. Each driver has also earned a class B Commercial Driver License. Bus drivers are required to pass a pre-employment drug test along with an annual physical and are subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Aransas Pass Drivers are professional and conduct themselves as such at all times.
  2. Restricted Areas: Aransas Pass ISD school buses will not enter a dead-end street or personal property except when approved by the Transportation Director.
  3. Proper Seating: School buses are designed for the safety of the students. The student should face forward. The student’s back should be flat against the back of the seat. Both feet and legs should be kept in front of their body. If a student is injured on a school bus, it is generally because they are not sitting correctly in their seat.
  4. Authorized Bus Stops: Bus Stops will be established within reasonable walking distance of the home. It is the responsibility of the Transportation Department to set designated bus stops with student safety, fairness and consistency in mind.
  5. The distances of how far a student will walk will vary with age and/or how the bus route is set up to run. If your child is: Pre-kinder to 3rd grade -- may walk between .1 of a mile to .2 of a mile, 4th grade to 6th grade --- may walk between .1 of a mile to .25 of a mile, 7th grade to 12th grade —may walk between .1 of a mile to .5 of a mile
  6. If a parent/guardian believes that a bus stop needs to be changed, please contact the Transportation Manager to discuss your recommended solution at 361-758-3416. The decision to have a designated bus stop changed will be made only when it is in the best interest of safe transportation for that bus.
  7. Designated Bus Stops: Students will only be allowed to load and unload at their designated bus stop unless pervious arrangements have been made with the Transportation office before 12:00 noon at 361-758-3416.
