We care so much about our student’s safety that we have measures in place to ensure they are in school where they are supposed to be during the school day. We are notifying parents when students are not in school. Our consistent effort is to make sure the parent is aware of their child’s absence.
School attendance is vital for young people to reach their full potential. Students at school and in class, benefit from valuable instruction that enhances student learning and increases student achievement. Aransas Pass ISD is committed to ensuring that students learn each and every day. We want to work with students and parents to help ensure excellent attendance and punctuality on a daily basis.
90% Rule - In order to receive credit for classes, students must be in attendance 90% of the days each class is offered. Students absent five (5) days are in jeopardy of losing class credit. Students and parents will have to go through an attendance appeal process to verify extenuating circumstances for excessive absences, which will either be approved or denied by the Student Intervention Team for Attendance Review.
Compulsory Attendance Law must be followed (Section 25.093 and 25.094 Texas Education Code). The law states: An Individual commits an offense if the individual fails to attend school on 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same school year or on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period. An offense violating the Compulsory Attendance Law may be prosecuted in a justice court in San Patricio County.
When students have to miss school for any reason, please call the attendance office so the school will know the student is out. After an absence the student must return to school with a note to verify the absence. All attendance is unexcused until we receive a note and depending on the reason for absence it will be excused or remain unexcused. Phone calls will not excuse an absence and are simply a courtesy to give the school a heads up.
Reference the Student Handbook for further information concerning Absences/Attendance.
Aransas Pass ISD is dedicated and committed to ensuring children are in school so that learning can take place and students will have the greatest opportunity to be successful.
